Tips to Celebrate Safely this 4th of July

The Dixon Police Department and the Dixon Fire Department encourage residents to celebrate safely this 4th of July. We invite you to join us in Hall Park for a safe, family-friendly concert from 6-9pm and fireworks show beginning at 9:15pm.

Safe and Sane Fireworks

“Safe and Sane” fireworks, which have been approved by the California Fire Marshall, can be purchased at several locations in the City. The use and possession of safe and sane fireworks are only permitted June 28th at 12:00 pm – July 6th 12:00 pm.

Dixon Police and Fire are committed to ensuring the safety of life and property in our City. As a reminder, illegal fireworks possession can result in a first-time fine of $500, escalating from there to $1000 per occurrence.  Dixon Police encourage all residents to have a happy, fun, and SAFE, 4th of July holiday. To report illegal fireworks, Dixon Police can be reached at 707-678-7080.

Fireworks Safety

  • Only use legal fireworks: Ensure you are using fireworks that are permitted in our area and follow all local regulations.
  • Supervise children: Never allow young children to handle fireworks. Even sparklers can be dangerous.
  • Keep a safe distance: Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly. Maintain a safe distance from other people, buildings, and flammable materials.
  • Have water ready: Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire or other emergencies.
  • Dispose of fireworks properly: Douse used fireworks with water before disposing of them to prevent fires.

Don't Drink and Drive

  • Designate a sober driver: Plan ahead and arrange for a sober driver if you plan to drink alcohol.
  • Use public transportation or ride-sharing services: Take advantage of local public transportation or ride-sharing services to get home safely.
  • Host responsibly: If you are hosting a gathering, provide non-alcoholic beverages and ensure guests have a safe way to get home.
  • Stay overnight if needed: If you are visiting friends or family, consider staying overnight rather than driving home.

By taking simple yet effective safety measures, we can ensure that this 4th of July is memorable for all the right reasons. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and safe Independence Day!
